Canadian Association of Muslim Women in Law (CAMWL) members are racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse. CAMWL members are also diverse in the types and areas of their legal work, including such areas of law as civil litigation, criminal, immigration, family and others. Our members work in a variety of settings, including private practice, government, legal clinics, and academia.
Membership in CAMWL is open to anyone who:
- identifies as a Muslim woman;
- is engaged in the study or practice of law (eg: articling student, law clerk, law student, lawyer, legal academic, paralegal, etc); and
- supports CAMWL’s mandate of using and critiquing the law to promote social justice (you can read more about our philosophy here).
Membership is also open on a case-by-case basis to others who may not fit the above criteria.
As a CAMWL member, you will be added to our listserv, receive regular updates on our activities, invitations to special events, and information on how you can get even more involved with CAMWL’s work. You will also be eligible to join the Steering Committee, CAMWL’s executive body, and to vote in our annual general meetings.
Annual membership fees (per calendar year, January to December) are:
- $20.00 for lawyers;
- $10.00 for everyone else.
