Access to Justice and the Legal Field

This year Canadian Association of Muslim Women in Law Annual General Meeting will be held at blg – Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.
The focus of the panel discussion will be on the barriers students and lawyers face accessing the legal profession and how the issues of access to justice and access to practice are interconnected. We want to draw connections between barriers to access law for litigants/defendants/etc because of costs, lack of representation from minority communities, to barriers faced by lawyers from equity seeking communities which also include costs (ie costs of entering profession and practicing), inadequate representation (which ties into lack of mentorship and difficulties networking), difficulties obtaining articling and lawyer jobs, etc.

Our Keynotes speakers are: Elsa Ascecio, Karin Baqi, Naseem Mithoowani, and Sarah Rostom.
