The ABCs of Solo and Small Firm Practice

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hang your own shingle? Are you already working as sole practitioner or in small firm? Do you have questions about how to thrive with independence? You are not alone. The evening will begin with a panel discussion on starting and running one’s own practice, featuring:

  • Imtenan Abd-El-Razik (immigration and refugee law)
  • Natasha Persaud (employment & human rights law)
  • Shaheynoor Talukder (family law)

This free panel discussion will be open to all current and potential members and to the general public.

Natasha practices Human Rights and Employment Law and is a partner at Mushtaq Persaud LLP. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Osgoode Hall Law School where she supervises students at the Community and Legal Aid Services Programme.

Shaheynoor practices primarily in the areas of estates and family law litigation. She received her law degree from the University of Ottawa and articled with a Toronto firm, where she worked on civil litigation matters. Shaheynoor started her own practice after being called to the bar in 2012.

Imtenan completed her law degree from the University of Toronto. After graduation, she worked in Canadian refugee law, before traveling to Cairo to represent African refugee claimants before the UNHCR. In 2013, Imtenan started a sole practice in Toronto focusing on refugee and immigration law. Imtenan is a member of CAMWL’s Steering Committee and is one of its founding members.

Annual General Meeting

During the AGM portion of the evening, the Steering Committee will provide a brief update about CAMWL’s activities and achievements during the year.

As well, there are currently 4 positions open on the Steering Committee for the upcoming year. If you are a CAMWL member who has not received our email announcement regarding how to to vote or run for election on the Steering Committee, please email us at contact@camwl.ca.

Reception / Eid Celebration

At the end of the election, join us to celebrate Eid and the end of CAMWL’s very successful inaugural year!

See you on July 31st — and don’t forget to RSVP!
